            "Bienvenida" means "Welcome" in Spanish. The Bienvenida Program will work with the populations at either end of
            the immigrant experience: newly arrived immigrants and established immigrants who have obtained permanent
            resident status.

            In the case of new immigrants, the Bienvenida staff will provide resources and assistance to prevent loss of immigration
            status, or to facilitate the process of status adjustment.

            In the case of legal permanent residents, Bienvenida will provide civics and language education to obtain the necessary
            knowladge base for the successful completion of the U.S. citizenship test.

            The initial phase of Bienvenida was launched in May 2006 thanks to a seed grant from Princeton Area Community
            Foundation.

            Bienvenida currently provides:

            Support of eligible immigrants through the naturalization process;
            .  Referrals to qualified, reputable agencies and legal professionals on immigration and other matters;
            .  Translation of documents, and assistance with the completion of routine forms, applications, financial and
                commercial processes;
            .  Escorting, interpreting and advocating for clients in complying with civic duties, claiming services, obtaining
                medical treatment, or seeking redress as victims;
            .  Help getting due process and avoiding recidivism;
            .  Advocating and mediating vis-à-vis businesses, landlords and employers
            .  Mentoring and guiding students seeking to pursue post-secondary education..

            To increase the availability of affordable legal services to low-income Latino immigrants families in Mercer
            County, LALDEF plans to hire and train staff, who will be accredited with the Bureau of Immigration Appeals
            and will work under the supervision of an attorney. This component is not expected to be in operation until 2008.
