Frequent Questions

Q?

I can’t afford a private attorney, Where can I go for legal advice on immigration matters?

A.

We have drop in hours on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4-6 PM. Call us at 609-688-0881 for an appointment on other days. The cost of the initial consultation is $35. Be sure to bring any documentation you may have regarding any prior immigration filings or proceedings. We only serve clients in the Mercer County area and surroundings, and people whose household income is at or below 250% of the poverty line. If we accept to take your case you would have to present documentation of your income.

There are other non-profit agencies and attorneys willing to provide legal services at low cost or on a pro-bono basis (free), to qualified, low-income applicants. For a list of these resources, by state, check out the U.S. Department of Justice web site.

Q?

I am not a Mercer County resident. Can I get the Mercer County Area Community ID?

A.

We issue the card to any applicant who can present satisfactory proof of ID and physical address, even if they don’t reside in Mercer County. However, the card may be of very limited use to anyone who does not live or work in Mercer County, as the card is unlikely to be recognized and accepted outside our immediate area.

Check the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Agency web site. You can also come to our office for a private consultation. See below for times and cost.
