LALDEF Names New Executive Director

LALDEF (Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dina Paulson-McEwen as its new Executive Director. Ms. Paulson-McEwen, a Queens, NY native of Ecuadorean and Jewish descent, has cemented more than 15 years of experience in communications—writing, editing, digital/print/social media—public speaking, teaching, development, and fundraising. She is a remarkable leader who has given time and energy to movements engaging social equity. Her track record is consistent with LALDEF’s highest aspirations. Our board of trustees welcomes her with a full heart.

Among many accomplishments, Ms. Paulson-McEwen organized and oversaw more than one thousand volunteers at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; mentored high school students in expository writing and the college essay at Write for the Future; and published monthly blog posts for Women’s Healthcare of Princeton. She is the founder of Aqua Editing LLC—a story developer for creative thinkers, including startups, writers, and educators—and a former LGBTQ Staff Liaison in a Detroit early-education and day care center of Bright Horizons Family Solutions. She currently serves as a member of the Human Services Commission in Princeton, NJ. She holds a Master’s degree in International Educational Development with a concentration in Peace Education from Columbia University.

Ms. Paulson-McEwen succeeds Adriana Abizadeh who presided over an unprecedented period of growth and organizational efficiency at LALDEF over her three-year tenure. Boasting 15 paid staff and more than 40 volunteers, LALDEF is now the largest not-for-profit organization of its kind in Mercer County, serving 3,000 clients annually. It provides English-as-a-Second Language classes, legal representation in immigration matters, tax preparation assistance, supports for victims of domestic violence, community identification cards, and educational programs for gifted youngsters in transition to college.

Dina Paulson-McEwen looks forward to continuing the growth started by Adriana Abizadeh. Her wealth of experience and devotion to our immigrant community bode well for LALDEF’s future.
