COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER/ADVOCATE

The Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF)—located in Trenton, NJ—seeks talented, focused, and diligent candidates for the role of Community Health Worker (CHW)/Advocate. This position offers the right candidate an opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to a growing organization that serves the needs of the immigrant community in Mercer County. LALDEF will facilitate Community Health Worker training and certification for the new addition to our team (through the Colette Lamothe-Galette Community Health Worker Institute).

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting LALDEF’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts and health-related outreach activities, as directed by LALDEF staff. Activities may include:
    • Creating/distributing flyers and other outreach materials around Mercer County; 
    • Participating in telephone outreach; 
    • Attending vaccination events around Mercer County to assist with translating;
    • Coordinating webinars and in-person events.
  • Attending (virtually) & completing the training provided through the Colette Lamothe-Galette Community Health Worker Institute and other training as needed.
  • Building partnerships and networks with community-based agencies, law enforcement,  courts, social and health service providers to facilitate clients’ access to needed resources.  
  • Promoting and distributing our Mercer County Community ID at two sites.
  • Coordinating client advocacy cases, drafting service plans, reviewing case progress, and determining case closure.
  • Translating documents on behalf of clients.
  • Assisting clients with application processes, making appointments, and acting as an advocate and informal interpreter.
  • Performing administrative tasks such as record-keeping, drafting letters, filing, and data management.
  • Researching policy changes that affect clients.
  • Recommending resources for clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required;
  • BA preferred (or equivalent experience);
  • Have access to reliable transportation around Mercer County;
  • Knowledge and understanding of community and social issues.

Candidates should be self-motivated, independent, and organized, with highly proficient communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills. Computer skills are highly regarded. Writing experience and data interpretation skills are preferred.

RECEPTIONIST/OUTREACH ASSISTANT

The Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF)—located in Trenton, NJ—seeks talented, focused, and diligent candidates for the role of Receptionist/Outreach Assistant.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position offers the right candidate an opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to a growing organization that serves the needs of the multicultural community in Mercer County.

Responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming clients at LALDEF’s headquarters in Trenton and referring them to program staff
  • Notifying staff of client arrivals as needed
  • Appointment scheduling and managing
  • Promoting and distributing our Mercer County Community ID
  • Maintaining a safe and clean reception area and lobby, as directed
  • Managing incoming calls and voicemail
  • Supporting LALDEF’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts and health-related outreach activities, as directed by LALDEF staff. Activities may include:
    • Telephone outreach
    • Attending vaccination events in Mercer County to assist with translating
    • Creating and distributing flyers and other outreach materials in Mercer County
  • Other tasks as directed

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Clerical and administration skills
  • Ability to use computers and hand-held devices; experience with Microsoft Office software and Google Drive preferred
  • Familiarity with phone systems

Candidates should be self-motivated, independent, and organized  with strong computer skills. Knowledge of or an interest in/ability to learn new software (Salesforce, Google Drive etc.) is preferred. In addition, the ideal candidate is a flexible, enthusiastic, organized individual with active listening skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

The Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund (LALDEF)—located in Trenton, NJ—seeks talented, focused, and diligent candidates for the role of Communications Associate. This is a part-time, in person position (10-15 hours/week). Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, this position offers the right candidate an opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to a growing organization that serves the needs of the immigrant community in Mercer County.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Director of Development and Communications to coordinate bilingual mass communications—especially educational videos, social media posts, text blasts, website content, and flyers
  • Drafting acknowledgment letters and assisting with other donor correspondence as needed
  • Providing some administrative support, including coordinating large mailings, filing, and copying

Qualifications:

Candidates should be self-motivated, independent, and organized with highly proficient communication skills. Bachelor’s degree required. Software skills (MailChimp, WordPress, Photoshop, etc.) preferred. Must have strong computer skills. In addition, the ideal candidate is bilingual in Spanish and English and is an enthusiastic, organized individual with a commitment to social justice and an interest in grassroots advocacy.

Some evening and weekend hours may be required for events. Compensation is competitive for similarly-sized organizations and is commensurate with experience.
