January 18, 2023: In the fall of 2022, Latinas Unidas, a support program designed for Latina Women of Mercer County, found a new home at LALDEF.

Founded in 1992 by Sasa Olessi Montaño at the YWCA in Trenton, NJ, the Latinas Unidas program was dedicated to “provid[ing] local Latina women with support for ongoing domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse, immigration, and financial counseling issues.” The Latinas Unidas program transitioned to the YWCA of Princeton, NJ  in 2015 and was discontinued in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are pleased to announce that Latinas Unidas has found a home at LALDEF in fall 2022, under the leadership of LALDEF Executive Director Cecy Jimenez-Weeast, who previously served as Director of the Latinas Unidas program at the YWCA for 20 years.
